The LEGO Movie spending spree continues

I went to two Data Blitz stores over the weekend to see if they had Bravely Default. Sadly, both stores are out of stock :(

Because my money wants to leave me so badly, I looked for something else to buy.

Surprise! The World Ends With You is available! I've been searching for this game for a long time. I played this a long time ago in my DS but unfortunately, I only downloaded the ROM in a flash cart and it was corrupted.

Then... The LEGO Movie Videogame! Boyfriend and I were debating as to whether we should get this for the 3DS or PSVita.

"Better graphics" was his main argument.

"I'm buying" was mine.

I just love it when people make rock instrumental versions of non-rock songs, especially when they're from video games :D This guy is way awesome! Just check how easily he goes through those riffs!

Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia

This is probably one of my favorite Pokemon games ever. The Ranger stint just works for me, better than the traditional Pokemon games. It's just more interactive and quite challenging too.

The game play is a lot different from the other Pokemon games since your character's a Ranger and you capture and befriend Pokemon not to battle, but to help you accomplish quests and missions.

You don't need a Pokemon to catch other Pokemon. You'll be given a Styler that you'll use to capture a wild Pokemon (or to save Pokemon in some cases) by drawing loops around the Pokemon. The creature can and will attack sometimes and if you're not too careful, your Styler will break and it's game over for you. Or you can just go back to your last save point.

You can use the Pokemon that you captured, aside from capturing other Pokemon, to clear out obstacles to help you get through the game. These are called Poke Assists. There are a number of Poke Assists that you will find familiar: Tackle, Cut, Soak. Then there's Recharge that will fill out the energy gauze of your Styler so you won't just die or something.

The plot itself is quite engaging. Simple story, yes: as a Pokemon Ranger, encounter bad guys who use Pokemon to take over the Almia region. For something that simple, I was amused throughout the whole game that I couldn't really put my DS down.

Now to resume playing Pokemon Ranger. Yes, a different Pokemon Ranger game lol XD

An isolated case, this is

I read from Kotaku that there's this 9-year-old girl who was attacked by a dog because the latter heard barking from the girl's DS as she was playing Nintendogs.

Her lower lip was bitten off by the dog, which turned out to be a bull mastiff (I super want one!).

Then this is what grandma says: "People should be told not to play it when there are dogs in the room. I blame the game for what happened to Megan. If they hadn't been playing it I don't think the dog would have gone for her."

Seriously. I played Nintendogs one too many times in the presence of all 7 dogs that I have. IN FULL VOLUME. AND MY DOGS CAN HEAR THE BARKING.

And what do they do?

Their ears perk up. Then they approach me. Then they deduce that the sound is coming from this little blue thing that I'm holding in my hands. They smell the DS. They hear the bark again. THEY LEAVE. They don't attack me, and mind you, none of my dogs went to obedience school.

Anyway, the dog, named Saracen, has been put down T_T and her owner says that the girl "..may have kicked Saracen, provoking the attack." And yes, that's what I think too.

New Pokemon!

Weee~ Here are the new Pokemon we'll be seeing when Pokemon White and Black are released! All 156 of them!

Can't wait to get my hands on both the White and Black. Can't wait to catch some of the uber cute Pokemon I see <3 But... I have to finish playing Heart Gold and Soul Silver first. Not to mention the Shadows of Almia that I'm currently playing ;_;

Fushigi Yuugi on my DS!

So I was late in finding out that my favorite anime of all time, Fushigi Yuugi (by Yuu Watase), has been made into a game for Nintendo DS. It was released last June 25, 2009 by Idea Factory. Finally! There's an FY game that I can actually play. I missed the first two games on PS2 and since I don't own a PSP, I didn't play the game made for it either.

It's quite awesome that there are two games in one cartridge (or rom *wink*). One focuses on Fushigi Yuugi itself, with Hotohori and Tamahome and I think I'm going to cry again as I saw that scene where Nuriko was dying while watching the promo video. So there's that and the other game has Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden as its plot. To be perfectly honest, Fushigi Yuugi Suzaku still holds the number 1 spot in my heart~ more than any of Yuu Watase's works.

There are two versions to the game - the difference of which is that the limited release includes a drama CD. So the regular version's the one pictured above while the limited looks like this:
Bummer though that it's in Japanese! Why do they make the best anime games in Japanese only?! Can't they (the developers) understand that there are international fans too??

Either way, I'm still going to play it and just hope that someone comes up with a full translation that I can follow lol X3

August is almost over

and I just realized that I haven't posted anything since June.

Hooray for the working class with no time for other things besides work.

Anyway, I'm getting a few posts ready (on the recent Metro ComiCon, K-On!, Sengoku Basara...) and I'll upload one each day. For the next couple of days. Until I run out. Or something. It's good to see that there still are some people who visit Poopsies despite its almost two-month-long inactivity.

Which reminds me... I've a lot of catching up to do in terms of blog posts by the different blogs in my blogroll. (That's 3 different uses of "blog.")

I'm excited though about a new anime preview that I saw... So I'll rave about it in another post lol.

Woohoo I found you, Slash!

I've been wondering where I could get Guitar Hero figures by McFarlane after seeing them on this site. They're awesomely cool, IMO, especially since Guitar Hero's like one of my favorite games ever. I even have the game for my DS - but that's another story.

So I was walking around the mall with my boyfriend and we entered this comic shop to look at some manga (he was busy with the Western comics) and guess what I saw: Guitar Hero's Slash! Like it was just there staring back at me in all its 10-inch glory!

Awesome right? So I was contemplating on whether I can spare the money that I've started to save for my pre-orders. Sadly, I couldn't. So I have to see whether I can spare some money for Slash from my next payday... Still have to wait until next week for that decision.

So I was about to walk outside the store so as to resist any more temptations, not only from Slash, but also from the shelves of manga, when my boyfriend called me. He was pointing to a set of clamshell-packaged figures which I thought he wanted. I approached him and looked at what he was pointing to only to realize that there were more Guitar Hero figures! They're sold as a set of four, and more pricey than Slash so I have to figure out which I want more. I can only afford to buy one (either Slash or the set of 4) - given that I have some cash to spare during the next pay day.

I hate you Philippine government! You and your stupid tax tables!!

No news on my figures yet

It's already October and still no figures. My pre-orders haven't arrived yet T_T So I'm still waiting for Clalaclan, Hayase Mitsuki and Kureha. Unfortunately, Genjo Sanzo's release date was moved from August to September to god knows when. So I'm still waiting for news about him since I also have him on pre-order and there is absolutely no way I'm going to skip him and his cute little Marlboro Reds accessory.

Good news is, I'll be getting a Roronoa Zoro (finally!) since someone cancelled their order from a local shop. Did I mention this already? Lol I don't really remember. So, I'm really excited to get him but since I can't easily go to the shop, I need to wait for my pre-orders so that I'll get them all in one go.

There isn't that much I could write since I'm still in the process of reading manga and finding one that strikes me and I haven't really seen any anime. Well aside from reading manga, all I do is play games on my DS... I can probably write something about those when I finish any one of them lol.

Invasion of the Cuties

...we're being taken over by Nendoroids. Everyone's enthralled by these really small and really cute SD versions of our favorite characters. If you still don't know what Nendoroids are, where have you been hiding? Eh..Here's a bit about Nendoroids.

Anyway, they've started to invade even video games now. Check out these screens of Virtua Fighters 5 where the Nendoroids are clearly visible.

Prince of Persia Update

So I'm not too sure what to make of this. Jake Gyllenhaal (of the Brokeback Mountain fame) along with Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace) is set to play the lead parts (Prince and Princess respectively) in the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie.

Gyllenhaal - I so don't know how to pronounce his name - will play Dastan, a 6th-century Persian prince. He has to join forces with the feisty Princess Tamina (Arterton) in order to save the world from an evil nobleman who is out to get his hands on the Sands of Time. The Sands of Time is kinda like a time machine: it allows the wielder to reverse time and in effect, he can rule the world.

Or something to that effect.

I've never really played the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time game, so I don't know how the game's storyline goes. But I've heard that the movie's plot was kinda changed a bit, names included. Can anyone confirm this?

The movie's set to be released by next summer, June 19, 2009.

I so want a Wii right now...

I want to play Okami on Wii! Playing it on PS2 was a bit of a struggle whenever the painting parts came. I fingers get strained and I have to keep repeating the painting because I seldom get it right the first time. I dunno if I'm the only one who experiences this though... ^^;

But man... Painting on Wii must be soooo easy. I wish I had a Wii so I can play Okami there too. I'm not really sure if the story and the gameplay's any different from the PS2 version though. So if anyone gets to play Okami on Wii...

Learn how to cook effortlessly!

So I finished playing Cooking Mama 2. In this second installment, you get to cook with 9 other characters aside from Mama. Thing is, you have to unlock them first - which is fairly easy since you just need to finish one recipe per new character. The game play is still the same although personally, I think it's easier to cook this time around.

In Cooking Mama, I always had trouble whenever I cut meat but in Cooking Mama 2, I have a choice of which knife I'll use. Slicing has never been easier! Oh and you get to choose between a whisk and long chopsticks for mixing too.

Bonuses are pretty easy to get - usually when you finish a task within 30 seconds (game time). If you get 5 bonuses after finishing a recipe, you get to choose one out of three gifts. These gifts aren't really anything big: they're just a bunch of stuff that you can put on your "pictures" like frames, animals, facial expressions, etc. About the "pictures," you can take pictures of the food you create - I only take pictures of the food that I designed myself lol (^ v ^)

Other gifts include outfits and accessories for Mama, kitchen stuff and layouts for the house. I dressed my Mama in something that really shouldn't be worn in the kitchen.. Well, when cooking, at least.

One of the things that I didn't really like about the game is the overly-excessive flowers and hearts sprouting all over the screen when you finish the game with a gold or silver medal. Yeah I'm well-aware that the game is for girls, but man... There is such a thing as too much. Those flowers especially...they explode on your screen!

Another thing is...Mama's voice. I can't describe it, but you'll know what I mean if you hear it. It's funny-annoying. Really.

Well the gameplay is easy enough, the graphics isn't bad either. If I'm to rate Cooking Mama 2, I'd give it a 6.5-7 out of 10. It gets boring after you finish the recipes and there's hardly anything new when you start playing the "Let's Cook" part with the other characters. It's the same food over and over again so you pretty much ace it towards the middle.

Then again, I like to cook...so Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends is something I'd recommend to those who like cooking - and food - too! :3

Welcome to the jungle (^ 0 ^)

So I just finished setting up a band and going through (and winning) the career mode of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. My verdict? Well the boss battles with Tom Morello, Slash and Lou the Devil were absolutely cool but I liked Guitar Hero II better, song-wise.

Sure, the graphics are better, stages are harder, there are more songs, more guitars and finishes, more outfits and themes...but Guitar Hero III wasn't all that big as I expected it to be. Well one thing that I liked was Midori, an addition to the playable characters that were revived from GH2 - her outfits (and themes) are super kawaii.

Okay so the added features aren't so bad too. Like the Battle and the Co-Op Career modes (both Multiplayers, of course). I like the Battle a lot and I had fun with all those double notes, difficulty ups, whammies and cut strings. This battle is the same one as what you have to do with Morello, Slash and Lou.

There's also a bit of animation at the start of each stage in the setlist. It's pretty simple though, so don't expect much. And speaking of the setlist, the songs are different for the solo career and the co-op career, so make sure you find someone to play co-op career with to see the other playlist. Ah and the gauges look different this time around and there's a counter for note streaks.

Overall? I think GH2 rocks better song-wise (as I mentioned earlier), but when when it comes to added features, the visuals and all those other extras, I think GH3 still tops its predecessors.

Activision gets sued

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock's maker, Activision, gets sued because the game does not produce surround sound when being played on the Nintendo Wii.

Activision, according to the law suit documents, claimed that Guitar Hero III on Wii only has Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound. Apparently, GH3 on Wii "only permits mono sound'.

Well, I enjoyed the Street Fighter movie (Van Damme) but everyone around me says that it's one of the suckiest movies ever made. It's my favorite though...but the subsequent video game to big screen movies, like Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Dead or Alive, are some of the movies that I totally did not enjoy at all.

OMG. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is coming out real soon (around November, I think)! And they're releasing it on PS2 too, which means that I can play the game as soon as it comes out -- since it's still quite too early, and too expensive, for me to get a PS3 this time. I loved playing Guitar Hero 2, so I'm sure to love Guitar Hero 3 too. (Too bad I can't find any copy of the first Guitar Hero...that would've been smashing.)

More Slash-fest! There's Guns 'N Roses and Velvet Revolver. Jeff also said that Slash will be in GH3 as a character, but you can't use him since he's a boss. Sucks. Argggggh I'm so excited!!

Okami: The Great God...A Wolf?!

I bought my Okami game mainly because I found the cover amusing - a wolf with a flaming stone-like thing (which I later found out was a weapon) on its back. Oh I also bought it because it was set during ancient Japan, though I'm not sure which part exactly.

Anyway, Okami is a single-player action-adventure game where the player takes on the role of Amaterasu (a white wolf) who has come back to earth because of the demon, named Orochi, whom Amaterasu defeated before has escaped from its tomb. Amaterasu must find a way to defeat Orochi once again before the demon's curse spreads throughout the land and corrupt everything on its path.

As you can see in the picture above, Okami's graphics look like an animated old Japanese painting. All throughout the game, the player can hit a button and the scene freezes into a canvas where he can paint to bring out Amaterasu's powers. The powers of Amaterasu are brush strokes that represent different elements like water, air, fire, etc. that you can get by discovering where different constellations are. The constellations are represented by different animals, some from the zodiac too, I think.

Okami is an easy game but at the same time, it's quite challenging too. I also love the characters' voices. They're uhm...unique. You have to play it to see what I mean. Oh and there are cute moments too, when you feed different animals specific kinds of food to gain praises. Oh yes, you need "praises". Try playing Okami, not because I said so, well, yeah because I did, but also because it gained quite a few good reviews from other players. I think it's also the last game Clover made, I'm not sure about this though, so correct me if I'm mistaken.
