Summer 2009 Anime Lineup!

Summer 2009 Anime LineupSo here's the updated Summer 2009 Lineup. I don't really find anything interesting to watch - which is a good thing: I can catch up on my backlogs :3

We're in the second month of the Summer so yes, yes, this "update" came a bit too late lol.

As for the movies, we have the following:
1. Summer Wars (Website)
2. Pokemon Diamond and Pearl: Choukoku no Jikuu e
3. Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai (Website)
4. Naruto Shippuuden: Sanbi Shutsugen no Shou
5. AKIRA - Live Action
6. Higanjima
7. Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror (Website)

Okay, so the movies are a whole different matter. Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai is on top of my watch list, of course. I'm kinda interested to see how they were able to pull off an AKIRA live action. Summer Wars, Higanjima and Oblivion Island look equally interesting as well.

Mio and the Assassin

I was browsing through the MINDstyle site coz I found those Stitch-like figures really cute during the ToyCon and I saw this:

MINDstyle Assassin

It's an assassin designed by some designer named Kei Acedera. Now I'm not into designer vinyl toys that cost as much as my PVC figures but this one just appeals to me. Maybe it's because of the character and the sword. I lurve swords~

This picture has me hyped though:

K-On! Mio figure

Yes, it's K-On!'s Mio! As I think it's pretty evident that I'm a Mio fangirl, I really really want this figure. There aren't any other details about her like the maker and such. It's only a prototype and even details on whether it's an official product, a custom, PVC or garage kit aren't available yet.

I do hope she gets released next year since I don't have money left for this year because of my pre-orders ;_; ($700 worth when you convert it to USD - and that's not a small figure here in the Philippines. That's like almost half of what a minimum wage worker earns annually. Huhu death to me and my wallet.)

8th Philippine Toy Convention

8th Philippine Toy Convention

June 13 and 14 marked the 8th Philippine Toys, Hobbies and Collectibles Convention for 2009. It was held in the Megatrade Halls 2 and 3 of SM Megamall. The entrance fee was Php100 (around $3) for a day's pass.

Basically, the ToyCon here in the Philippines is just one huge bazaar.

8th Philippine Toy Convention

So I met up with some Otakai people who went to the ToyCon at around 11 AM. We quickly headed to the Japanimation booth to get some cheap toys. There were too many people and the venue was too small to accommodate the hobbyists, the vendors, the cosplayers and the spectators whom I don't know why they are there for.

Now I don't want to sound like an elitist but there were some people there who definitely seemed like they were spending their money on toys just because they think it makes them "cool". It was annoying because they kept hogging the area around the booths, shouting the name of the gashapon/trading figure they were holding. Then there were a lot of parents towing small children who probably went to the ToyCon because of the word "TOY".

It was a bit surprising that there were quite a number of anime-related figures as compared to the previous ToyCons. Well it still is a given that Western toys were predominant, especially with the upcoming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen movie (coming to local theaters on June 24!) and the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie.

8th Philippine Toy Convention

There were some interesting displays though but not that much interesting cosplayers. I did see a group of K-On! cosplayers and how I wish I didn't see them at all. I didn't take that much pictures this time since there were too many people and too little sights. Oh but they did arrange the Hall's Function Room as a display area where the hobbyists showcased their collections and customs. Some 1:1 busts of superheroes were also on display (woot! Hugh Jackman is lurrrve~) and a diorama of WWII (I think) was on the center of the area. I enjoyed looking at the customized Mighty Muggs since I collect them myself, and it was amusing to see a Manny Pacquiao Mugg for some reason~~

Anyway, here's the rest of the ToyCon pictures:

Miyamoto Musashi Photoshoot pt.2

Since my pictures of Miyamoto Musashi sucked, my dad was kind enough to take some pictures of him using his new toy: a Canon 50D DSLR. I have no idea what kind of lens and flash he used (as I have zero knowledge in cameras) but it's pretty big -- and heavy.

So here's another set of pictures of the Square Enix Static Arts Vagabond Miyamoto Musashi which I absolutely adore to bits!
